The publishers EA and Tecmo Koei have announced a cooperation. They’re working together on an action RPG that’s descriptively reminiscent of the Monster Hunter games.
Here’s what EA and TK announced: The two publishers announced that they have started a new partnership. In collaboration with EA, Tecmo Koei’s Omega Force studio will develop a new action RPG.
This is a new IP set in feudal Japan. It aims to be “a new kind of hunting game” that will bring innovative gameplay mechanics and take the hunting experience to a new level.
Not much else was revealed about the new IP, but the details so far make it sound more like a monster hunter game than a more realistic wild boar hunting game.
Developer Omega Force has a lot of experience in action games
This is Omega Force: Another indication that this is a game similar to Monster Hunter is the developer Omega Force. Most gaming fans will know the studio for their popular Dynasty Warriors series and as the originators of the Musou game genre.
The developers have a lot of experience in the field of action games and have already worked with numerous other IPs outside of Tecmo Koei. Their portfolio includes Nintendo’s Hyrule Warriors and Atlus’ Persona 5 Strikers.
Above all, Omega Force already has experience with Monster Hunter-like games. Toukiden: The Age of Demons and Toukiden 2 generously borrow gameplay elements from the Capcom games but change the setting. Set in feudal Japan, players hunt oni, Japanese demons, instead of monsters.
Some gaming fans on reddit therefore suspect that the new IP from EA and Tecmo Koei will take the same direction: a Monster Hunter-like action game in which you will hunt demons. A kind of Toukiden with a high AAA budget.
For the time being, however, these are pure assumptions. EA and Tecmo Koei promise detailed information about the game in the next few weeks of September. It is likely that the first information will come during the Tokyo Game Show, which is right around the corner and starts on September 15th.
