In the MMORPG MapleStory, a boss was so strong that it took players more than half a year to defeat him

In February 2022, a new boss was added to the Korean version of MapleStory. For a long time it seemed impossible to defeat this boss. With 720,000,000,000 life points and a fight that is divided into several phases, the boss represents an enormous challenge even for experienced players. After 189 days, a group has finally triumphed.

What game is MapleStory? MapleStory is a Korean MMORPG published by publisher Nexon. The game world is structured like a side scroller and implemented in 2D graphics. You can choose from one of 4 basic professions with your character.

The professions work like classes in other MMORPGs. As you level up your character, you gain access to additional professions that allow you to further specialize your playstyle.

What makes the boss so special? The boss named Kalos is on the last level of Karote, the infinite tower. He guards the entrance to the sky city of Odium. You need at least level 270 to fight the boss. This is not for beginners, you must already have invested a lot of time in MapleStory.

If you have the appropriate level, you can theoretically compete against Kalos once every 30 minutes, but a maximum of three times a day. This limited access also contributes to the level of difficulty – after all, you cannot train as often as you like.

What makes the fight so complicated?

Here are Kalo’s abilities:

  • Poktan – Creates a bomb that steals 30% to 50% of your health when it detonates.
  • Laser – A laser that will track you and stun if you are hit.
  • Juktel – Kalos becomes invisible and then attacks your party from the shadows. Deals very high damage when hit.
  • Breath – An area attack that deals high damage when hit.

In the fight it is important to keep an eye on the various timers. Also, you and your party will need to deal massive amounts of damage if you’re going to have any chance at all. The combination of high life points and difficult mechanics makes this fight so challenging. So it’s no wonder that it took 189 days to defeat this boss.

Is Kalos the hardest boss in MapleStory?

Not unbingt: Kalos competes with the Black Mage for the title of the hardest boss. The community feels that the Black Mage has more complicated mechanics and requires a little bit more skill.

Kalos, on the other hand, is a much bigger damage check. Since the equipment of the players at the time when Kalos was released did not yet have sufficiently high values, the boss was considered invincible for a long time.
