The prodigal son wins the 1st match in CoD Warzone 2 – And the war for viewers on Twitch

Nicholas “Nickmercs” Kolcheff is Call of Duty’s first big winner. The American won on 15.9. the first match in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and he was by far the most watched streamer on Twitch in the evening. He beat the official channel of Call of Duty, the French Gotaga and Ninja. Its advantage: The competition at CoD is now gone from Twitch.

Who won the evening of Call of Duty on Twitch? On the evening of September 15th there was the event “Call of Duty” Next – Activision Blizzard had invited 150 live streamers to show their new offering of Call of Duty. The Twitch streamers were live for 5 hours.

We know the numbers on Twitch (via sullygnome):

  • In the end, the winner was Nickmercs, who had an average of 71,011 viewers and a peak of 101,584.
  • With that, Nickmercs had more viewers than the official call of Call of Duty, more than French star Gotaga and more than Ninja, who only came in 6th place
  • In Germany, the twitch streamer “STYLERZ” was the leader. He’s also been showing Call of Duty: Warzone all year. He was 16th internationally.

Streamer was huge in CoD Warzone in 2021 – but left angry

Why is he the prodigal son? From Activision Blizzard’s perspective, it’s important to get Nickmercs excited about Call of Duty again:

  • Nickmercs was by far the biggest streamer of Call of Duty: Warzone in 2021
  • But in 2022 he left the flag and almost only showed the competition from Apex Legends
  • So it is strategically valuable if you bring him back to CoD Warzone right now and inspire him

Where are the other big Twitch streamers? Many major Twitch streamers closely associated with Call of Duty have made the switch to YouTube in recent years:

  • TimTheTatman left in 2021 – he’s such a good mood bear from Call of Duty
  • CourageJD has been on YouTube for a long time
  • DrDisrespect had to flee into exile there after a ban – but he was out anyway. He fell out of favor with Call of Duty

Apart from Ninja, Activision Blizzard had invited a few “generally large streamers” from the USA: shroud is probably too closely linked to Valorant – you probably don’t want xQc because of its proximity to gambling. Tfue is in Fortnite fever right now.

So there were mainly Call of Duty streamers on site.

The two could have competed with Nickmercs – but both are no longer on Twitch.
